Job description
Matrix Recruitment is hiring a Director OF Engineering for our client site in Wexford.
This is a senior leadership role making sure the engineering side of the plant runs smoothly, improves over time, and stays safe and efficient.

Your new Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Asset and Capital Project Management
– Owns and executes the Site Master Plan (5-year strategy)
– Manages all capital projects, from design review to change control
– Drives sustainability, R&D, and end-of-life upgrades for equipment and software - Facilities, Utilities, and Maintenance Oversight
– Ensures continuous operation of plant facilities and clean utilities
– Leads plant maintenance strategy (preventative, condition monitoring)
– Oversees site infrastructure, engineering workshop, and spare parts inventory - Process and Operations Support
- Provides engineering support to operations for reliable and efficient production
- Manages automation and process control systems, including innovation and upgrades - Compliance and Engineering Standards Management
– Maintains regulatory and corporate compliance (EHS, CE, ATEX, FMW)
– Oversees engineering documentation and ensures IP protection measures are in place - Leadership, Talent Development, and Team Capability Building
– Leads a high-performing engineering team
– Develops talent through CPD, apprenticeships, and knowledge sharing initiatives
What You Need:
- Degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years in high-volume manufacturing (beverage, pharma, food, or healthcare)
- 3+ years in senior engineering leadership role
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams
- Proven track record in capital project management (design, install, budget, risk)
- Strong knowledge of engineering regulations (ATEX, HAZOP, COSHH, COMAH, etc.)
- Skilled in automation & process control (PLCs, Ethernet, DeviceNet, etc.)
- Proficient with CMMS (SAP preferred)
- Experience in global, cross-functional environments
- Excellent communication, planning, and problem-solving skills
