What you need to know
Our Client Nursing Home is based in Galway seeks an experienced, compassionate, and dedicated Director of Nursing to lead their nursing team. This role involves overseeing all aspects of nursing care, ensuring the highest standards of resident care, compliance with regulations, and fostering a positive, professional environment for staff and residents.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the nursing staff, promoting a culture of excellence in resident care.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and evaluation of nursing staff, ensuring all personnel are well-qualified and up to date with current practices.
  • Implement nursing policies and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate organizational goals, policies, and updates.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promoting professional development and job satisfaction.
Resident Care:
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care to all residents.
  • Develop and maintain individualized care plans, coordinating with medical professionals, families, and residents to meet each resident's needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate resident care practices to ensure effectiveness and adherence to standards.
  • Address and resolve any concerns or complaints regarding resident care promptly and effectively.
  • Advocate for residents' rights and ensure their dignity, privacy, and respect are upheld.
 Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Prepare for and participate in regulatory inspections and audits, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records, including resident files, staff credentials, and incident reports.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations and standards, and update policies and practices accordingly.
Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage the nursing department budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Monitor and control expenditures, identifying areas for cost savings without compromising quality of care.
  • Participate in financial planning and resource allocation discussions with senior management.
Quality Improvement:
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident care and operational efficiency.
  • Analyse data related to resident outcomes, incidents, and other metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement evidence-based practices and innovative solutions to improve nursing care delivery.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with standards.
Community and Family Engagement:
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, families, and the broader community.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding residents' health status, care plans, and any changes in condition.
  • Promote within the community, participating in outreach and marketing efforts to enhance the facility's reputation.
What we are Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ireland.
  • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role, preferably in a long-term care setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare regulations, nursing practices, and quality standards.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficiency in healthcare management software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to resident care.
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to integrity.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
