What You Need to Know:
Matrix Recruitment is seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) / Person in Charge (PIC) to lead the nursing team at our client’s nursing home based in Laois. This is a permanent position, ideal for a nursing professional with strong leadership skills and acute experience.
Our client is committed to delivering the highest standards of resident care. As Director of Nursing, you will oversee all aspects of nursing care, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and fostering a positive, professional environment for both staff and residents.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
Provide strategic leadership and direction to the nursing team, promoting a culture of excellence in resident care.
Oversee recruitment, training, and evaluation of nursing staff, ensuring qualifications and up-to-date practices.
Implement nursing policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate goals, policies, and updates.
Foster a collaborative, supportive work environment that encourages professional growth and job satisfaction.
Resident Care:
Ensure the provision of high-quality, resident-centered care for all residents.
Develop and maintain individualized care plans, coordinating with medical professionals, families, and residents.
Monitor and evaluate resident care practices, ensuring adherence to standards.
Address and resolve any concerns or complaints related to resident care in a timely and effective manner.
Uphold residents' dignity, privacy, and rights in all aspects of care.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
Prepare for and participate in regulatory inspections and audits, implementing corrective actions as required.
Maintain accurate, comprehensive records, including resident files, staff credentials, and incident reports.
Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations and update policies and practices as needed.
Financial Management:
Manage the nursing department budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising care quality.
Collaborate with senior management on financial planning and resource allocation.
Quality Improvement:
Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident care and operational efficiency.
Analyse data related to resident outcomes and incidents to identify areas for improvement.
Implement evidence-based practices to optimize nursing care delivery.
Conduct regular audits to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with standards.
Community and Family Engagement:
Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, families, and the community.
Communicate with families regarding residents' health status and care plans.
Promote the nursing home within the community and participate in outreach and marketing efforts to enhance its reputation.
What We Are Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration preferred.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ireland.
E Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role, preferably in a long-term care setting.
Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, nursing practices, and quality standards.
Exceptional leadership, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in healthcare management software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Compassionate, empathetic approach to resident care, with a strong ethical commitment to integrity.
: Ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team, handle sensitive information with discretion, and make sound decisions under pressure.
