With over 26 years at the helm, Kieran has guided Matrix from its beginnings to becoming one of the most respected recruitment agencies on the East Coast and Midlands. 1. What professional experience and qualifications led you to establish Matrix Recruitment?

I’ve worked in the industry for over 20 years. My last role was as Financial Controller at Bausch & Lomb's sunglasses plant in Waterford. I’m also a GCMA-qualified Global Cost and Management Accountant.

2. As the founder and Managing Director, how would you describe your current role and a typical day?

My role is continually evolving. Each day, I connect with my senior management team, make decisions on outstanding matters, and review our strategic plan to ensure compliance. I'm also exploring potential new industry sectors for Matrix, assessing their feasibility and potential contributions to our business—this requires extensive research.

3. What do you find most fulfilling about leading Matrix Recruitment?

The most rewarding part is leading a team of individuals who genuinely enjoy their work and recognise that recruitment has the power to change lives.

4. After 26 years with Matrix, what do you value most about your team, and what drives you to continue growing the company?

I value my team's resilience and their dedication to every task they undertake. My motivation has always been to grow Matrix on a solid foundation so that, when I eventually step down, the company remains a viable business for our staff.

5. What advice would you offer to someone aspiring to lead successfully in recruitment or run their own business?

Recruitment is a dynamic industry—it's essential to embrace change with clear goals and a defined purpose. Building a senior team that supports and executes the strategy is crucial to achieving success.

6. Which three key skills do you consider essential for excelling as a leader in recruitment?

      • Passion

      • Resilience - there’s no such word as "can’t"

      • Relationship-building

7. What do you consider your greatest achievement, whether in your professional or personal life?

Establishing Matrix as a leading recruitment firm on the East Coast and Midlands.

8. Is there a piece of advice you've received that has shaped your leadership style?

"Never give up, and always support your staff."

9. Is there a guiding principle or personal mantra that you follow in your leadership role?

I live by the mantra, "A day without laughter is a day lost." It reminds me to keep a positive outlook, even during challenges.
