When someone wants to win big on a horse they don’t go in blind, they do their research and study the form. The same is true about job hunting. Be a job-hunting Champion!

Today’s Tip: Be Driven on the Job Hunt

When you’re looking for a new challenge – the opportunities won’t land at your feet: you must be proactive in your job hunt. Searching for a new career opportunity can be a job in itself so you’ll need to approach it with eagerness and enthusiasm. Here are some tips to get you started:

  1. Try to articulate what it is you’re looking for. If you can put your ideal job or employment opportunity into words and on paper, it can make it more achievable and allows you to target your search. Speak to your family and friends and share your targets with them. This will add a level of accountability to your job hunting.
  2. Keep up to date. Sign up and follow jobs boards, social media groups and hashtags (eg. #waterfordjobs, #engineerjobs etc.) to get notifications when new job opportunities arise.
  3. Be sure to network. Great opportunities often come when you least expect them, so always consider the people around you and what career options they might be able to offer you.
  4. Be persistent, not pushy. If you don’t hear back within a few days, you can enquire about your application and see if there are any updates, it’ll show that you’re interested and eager.
