1. What is your background? (Qualifications and work experience)

I am a qualified Graphic Designer and after college I kind of ‘fell’ into marketing, I hadn’t planned on it becoming my career! As soon as I realised how important a solid marketing function is to a company overall and how much of an impact it could have, I knew it was something I wanted to do forever. After working in marketing for over 6 years I felt like it was time to upskill so in 2020 I went back to college part time (whilst working full time) to get my Post Graduate Diploma in Digital Marketing.

  1. Can you describe your current role – what’s your typical day-to-day?

When someone says the ‘marketing department’ in Matrix, they are just referring to me so as you can imagine my job is very busy! Every day is different, and I get to be involved in every aspect of marketing, social media, website, business development and strategic plans. I absolutely love my job as it allows me to be creative and to come up with new and exciting ideas that will in turn (hopefully) benefit the wider business.

  1. What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love that in Matrix I am allowed to be myself, be as creative as I like and that my ideas are taken on board and considered by all.  I also really enjoy brainstorming with my colleagues to come up with new concepts and strategies that will set us apart from our competitors.

  1. You’ve been part of the Matrix Recruitment team for 3 years now. What is your favourite thing about the team and what are the key reasons you’ve stayed with the company?

My favourite thing about working in Matrix is the support that we all receive. Everyone wants each other to be successful and these successes are celebrated. We are all one big family in Matrix and I thoroughly enjoy working here!

  1. What advice would you give to someone who would like to become a Marketing professional?

‘Marketing’ as a job can mean different things to different companies and/or industries. I would advise to decipher if you work better in a team or on your own, are you more comfortable with a certain aspect of marketing (social media, web development, strategy etc) than another and what type of company you would like to work for (SME, multinational). By narrowing down your search for a marketing job, you will find what niche works best for you.

  1. What are the 3 key skills you need to excel as a good Marketing professional?

Be resilient, open to change and collaborate with every member of the team. Also, keep yourself open to suggestions and try not to take things too personally!

  1. How has remote working impacted your role and the culture of the team?

Working remotely at first was difficult as we hadn’t experienced it before. Since March 2020, we have all had to adapt and try new things. Now in Matrix we have a hybrid working option in place which is great as we have the best of both worlds – meeting colleagues a couple of times a week but also the work life balance to spend more time with family and friends!

  1. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

“It doesn’t matter what job you are doing, once you are happy getting up in the morning to do it, that is all that matters”.

  1. What hobbies/interests do you have outside of work?

I enjoy yoga, walking, reading and catching up on Netflix documentaries.

  1. If you had one superpower, what would it be?

I think I would like the ability to become invisible or to be a fly on the wall!

  1. What’s your favourite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

My favourite sport to watch is Hurling and I support the boys in blue and white, county Waterford! I go to all the matches every year with my Dad. The first match he ever brought me to was the day after my Communion to see Waterford play Tipperary in Thurlas.

  1. What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

I broke my collar bone when I was 8 by falling off a horse and then 1 week after getting the all clear from the doctor about my collar bone, I ended up breaking my leg. It was an eventful year to say the least!
